This fall, a DC icon returns… and so do the lifeless in DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Military of the Useless.
The story begins in Berlin, 1944. The Nazis are flanked on all fronts by the mixed Allied forces, and defeat appears inevitable. In a last-ditch effort to show the tide of the battle, Hitler and his staff of evil scientists create a serum that resurrects their lifeless troopers, creating a military of the lifeless even stronger than they had been in life.
Sgt. Rock, hero of the European Theatre, and his Straightforward Firm discover themselves dispatched into enemy territory to face off in opposition to the strangest, most horrific enemies they’ve encountered but: Nazi Zombies.
Written by the knowledgeable in battling the evil lifeless, Bruce Campbell (Ash Vs. Evil Useless), this six challenge miniseries is an action-packed, terrifying journey. Eisner and Harvey Award-Successful Artist Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets) brings the battlefield to grotesque life because the Straightforward Firm tears throughout Europe.
And should you’re not afraid of gore, Difficulty #1, on sale September 27, could have a Duffel Bag Gore variant cowl drawn by Frank Quitely (The Authority) too grotesque to even present you. Charlie Adlard (The Strolling Useless) is again drawing zombies for the primary time since he wrapped up his run on The Strolling Useless in a 1:25 variant. Difficulty #1 will even have a variant cowl drawn by Francesco Francavilla (Batman: Black Mirror), a 1:50 variant drawn by Chris Mooneyham (Joker Presents: A Puzzlebox), a 1:100 variant by Pia Guerra (Y: The Final Man), and foremost cowl by Gary Frank (Supergirl) in an all-star artists line-up.
Sgt. Rock first debuted in DC’s comics in 1959, in Our Military at Battle #83. Sgt. Franklin John Rock and his Straightforward Firm grew to become a mainstay of DC’s common battle comics. Created by author Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock was soldier of just about preternatural capacity and grit, battling Nazis throughout Europe and Northern Africa throughout World Battle II. Now, he’s again, in a brand new, terrifying setting on this action-horror mash-up, updating a basic DC hero for brand spanking new followers!
