Machine Gun Kelly is still in celebration mode over his new album Tickets To My Downfall debuting at No.1 on the Billboard 200.

Now, it looks like MGK was almost going to bring his celebration and new pop-punk songs to Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Saturday Night Live is back to filming with a studio audience amid the coronavirus pandemic. According to various reports, the show dodged New York’s COVID-19 guidelines by paying audience members to attend the show. Nevertheless, Saturday Night Live made its return without a hitch.

Since returning to filming, SNL has shared various new sketches with audiences around the world. Just last weekend, host Chris Rock starred in a sketch that was all about the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise. The clever sketch about the popular video games and ongoing pandemic quickly got the stamp of approval from Tony Hawk himself.

Now, it looks like another familiar face was set to appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend. On Thursday, a fan reached out to Machine Gun Kelly on Twitter about appearing on the show. They said he should hit up his friend and Big Time Adolescence co-star Pete Davidson to snag a musical guest spot.

“I vote Pete Davidson calls up @machinegunkelly and he gets to be musical guest on SNL this weekend- just saying it’s what we deserve.”

To the surprise of many, MGK confessed that he was almost the musical guest for this weekend’s show.

“it almost happened this weekend.”

Machine Gun Kelly didn’t reveal how the seemingly last-minute SNL opportunity came up. However, it could be due to SNL‘s latest musical guest breaking COVID-19 protocol. Country singer Morgan Wallen was set to appear on the NBC show this weekend.

Wallen revealed in an Instagram video that he was told he couldn’t perform because of the health and safety protocols in place. Earlier in the week, a video of the performer surfaced on TikTok. The video, which eventually went viral, shows Wallen drinking at a party without wearing a mask.

In his statement video, Wallen says he has not tested positive for COVID-19, but adds that his “actions this past weekend were pretty shortsighted.” He goes on to say that he understands and respects SNL‘s decision to remove him as the musical guest.

“And they have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” he said. “I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy and I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans, to my team for bringing me these opportunities and I let them down.”

Bill Burr is set to host this weekend’s Saturday Night Live show. However, as of Oct. 8, no musical guest has been announced.

Although MGK is not the musical guest this weekend, it is possible that he could perform on a future episode. MGK is topping the charts with Tickets To My Downfall which sold a staggering 126,000 copies in its first week, 63,000 of which were pure sales.

Tickets To My Downfall is officially MGK’s first album to debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200. The album, which was produced by Travis Barker, includes collabs with blackbear, iann dior, Trippie Redd and Halsey. MGK and Halsey recently confirmed that they have filmed a video for their collab “forget me too,” which should make its debut soon.
