Erika Jayne revealed why she hasn’t cut her glam team despite being faced with multiple lawsuits, one of which was filed to the tune of $25 million, on Wednesday’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
As she filed new court documents, admitting to being unable to pay a back tax debt of $2.2 million, Erika pointed out that she’s “downsized” to a smaller home (her $9,500 per month rental) before noting that she should be allowed to do things she enjoys — and suggesting she shouldn’t be judged for it.
“Certain things you don’t downsize on, and that’s your glam,” Erika said in an interview, via Bravo’s Style & Living. “Fashion, hair, makeup: To me, it’s art, living art, and I enjoy that. And it shouldn’t be judged any other way. Nobody judges if people want to have big families. I want to buy a bunch of clothes.”
During the cast’s trip to Mexico on Wednesday’s RHOBH, Erika and others brought members of their glam team to keep them looking their bests (which Erika once said cost her a whopping $40,000 per month). Crystal Kung-Minkoff, meanwhile, did not bring glam and said the concept was “ridiculous.”
“I don’t even want to pay for my own hotel room. I’m not trying to pay for other people’s [rooms] and their flights and their food and paying them,” Crystal said. “I can just put on some lip gloss and I’m good. I would just never travel with glam. Why spend the money? It’s ridiculous.”
And just as Erika doubled down on her glam expenses, it was revealed that she’s just filed new documents, confirming she can’t pay the $2,226,985.77 she owes to California.
“I am in the midst of trying to figure out the basis of this tax bill with the assistance of my business manager, who is also an accountant,” Erika wrote in a June 14 filing, via Us Weekly. “I do not have the ability to pay the [California Franchise Tax Board] tax bill.”
According to the report, the overdue amount is from tax years 2011, 2012, and 2013. In her documents, Erika acknowledged that she didn’t know if the tax board is “claiming any sort of lien” on her assets, which include the $750,000 diamond earrings she was ordered to turn over in February amid the bankruptcy proceedings against estranged husband Thomas Girardi, who is accused of using clients’ funds to buy them.
