Are Mary Fitzgerald and husband Romain Bonnet ready for a baby?
As the fifth season of Selling Sunset comes to a close, Mary is opening up about her future plans for a family, sharing the rule Jason Oppenheim has for her on the show, and revealing how she feels about Christine Quinn‘s future return, or future exit, from the Netflix reality show.
“I don’t think [Romain] would have [a baby] today because we’re so busy. We both just understand that’s not fair to a child,” Mary explained on the Behind the Velvet Rope With David Yontef podcast on May 4. “We would have to slow down a little bit so that we can be present.”
“He wants kids but he doesn’t want to do it with [me] if I’m just doing it for him. He doesn’t want to force me to do that,” Mary continued.
According to Mary, if she and Romain weren’t able to enjoy it or if starting a family was going to cause issues, Romain would rather “just [live] a happy life together.”
“But I also don’t want to deny him of that experience,” she noted.
Although freezing embryos has been something Mary and Romain have discussed in recent years, they only just got around to doing so.
“We’re actually doing it right now,” Mary revealed. “So that option will always be there whenever we’re ready.”
Mary was then asked if Christine, who recently left The Oppenheim Group, was a top broker of the firm.
“No, she’s not. [But] a lot of them are doing really well,” Mary said. “I’ve always been like one of the top ones, [Chrishell Stause] and [Emma Hernan] are doing amazing. Like they are kicking a–. I would say Chrishell and Emma are… probably two of the top ones right now.”
Although Mary often oversees the happenings of the firm and frequently offers help, both professionally and personally, to other brokers, she couldn’t say if she was paid for doing so.
“Jason doesn’t like me talking about money. I’m not allowed to!” she confirmed.
One of the most controversial moments of Selling Sunset season five was the alleged bribe Christine offered to one of Emma’s clients, which would have given the client $5,000 for ending his professional relationship with her.
“It is completely unethical. It’s embarrassing from a broker standpoint that one of our agents would do that to another agent within our company, let alone anybody else,” Mary said. “It’s just a situation that I’m disgusted by. And the fact that she doesn’t even think that she needs to respond to or answer any questions… I’m just baffled.”
Mary was so upset by Christine’s behavior that she said that if her neck was on the line, she would have fired Christine from The Oppenheim Group.
“Yeah, for many reasons. And not all of them are on the show. Some things have been edited out, but yeah, for many reasons I would have,” she confirmed.
As for whether she’d fire her from Selling Sunset, Mary was on the fence.
“I think the show could probably survive without Christine, but I don’t know,” she admitted. “I know she’s entertaining and good for the show, but she’s also taking away from the whole vision and the whole message that we were trying to send out, which is like… Women can be boss b-tches. You can support each other, lift each other up… You don’t have to tear each other apart and be like jealous and vindictive and stuff to make yourself feel better.”
“It’s kind of sad… People like drama and she’s very entertaining, but it causes problems personally for me and everybody else,” she added.
Also during the podcast appearance, Mary said that while she “would love it if [Chrishell and Jason] did get back together,” she doesn’t see that happening.
“I would say probably not… Just because I know how much she wants children and I know he’s not going to be ready I don’t think,” she shared, adding that it wouldn’t be fair for Jason to “make her wait for a couple years” and potentially still not be ready.
“He loves her too much and wants the best for her,” Mary noted.
The Selling Sunset season five reunion will be released on Netflix this Friday, May 6.
